Taj Lake Palace History
The Taj Lake Palace was earlier popular with the name Jag Niwas as it was the pleasure home of Maharana Jagat Singh III. According to beliefs there are many fascinating stories about the history of this palace. In 1743 Maharana Jagat Singh the young son of Maharana Sangram Singh II asked him if he could live in the summer palace Jagmandir along with his women friends. However Maharana Sangram Singh denied his request and also taunted him about his wish. He asked him that if he at all wished to stay on an island then he should build one such palace for himself. Maharana Jagat Singh actually took those taunts seriously. And so he built a pleasure palace on the island and completed the construction in 1746. On the basis of his name the palace got its name Jag Niwas.
