History of Ram Niwas Garden
The Ram Niwas Garden is located just opposite the Albert Hall Museum and the construction of the garden goes back to 1868. Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II built this garden as a famine relief project. Colonel Sir Swinton Jacob designed this garden that spreads across an area of 30 acres. Initially however the garden was even bigger in size as it was spread over an area of 76 acres. But after the addition of modern facilities the size of the garden has been reduced.
At the time when the garden was built there were specific timings fixed for the Royalty as well as the general public. During the day the park was open for the general public while the evenings were for the Royal families and royalty. The families of British officers, their guests visited this garden. Also nobles and their extended families, members of high society clubs were frequent in this garden.
